“Get into the habit of saying, “Speak, Lord,”
and life will become a romance (1 Samuel 3:9).”
Oswald Chambers
So interesting, and yet so characteristic of God, that on the very day I begin this new blog, the reading for today’s date in My Utmost for His Highest should speak to the very thing I intend to do here. Thankfully, I have gotten into the habit of asking God to speak to me, and because of that my life has been a wonderful romance, and an adventure, as the Creator of all things coverses with little old me.
I want to use this space to share some of the things I hear when I ask God to speak and then listen and ask Him to help me understand. I also want to share some of the wonderful and amazing things I experience as I attempt to live – and grow – in the Spirit every day. My desire and purpose is that others who want to know and experience God’s love and presence in a deeper way will be encouraged to seek Him, and to embark on the adventure of a lifetime: life in the Spirit
Romans 8 describes what it means to live life in the Spirit, as one who has received the gift of life and freedom that is freely offered to all who choose to believe in Jesus Christ and His teachings, death and resurrection. Verses 16 and 17 give the reason for the joy that comes from living in the Spirit: The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
And what is this Spirit we speak of? Jesus explained to His disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” John 16:13-14
When you get into the habit of asking God to speak – and taking the time to listen for His response – you will experience a life of romance far more wonderful and satisfying than any human relationship can offer. So please, let’s embark on a journey together. A journey of discovery, of adventure, and of truth. God loves you and wants to speak to you – and to listen to you – about the things that matter to you, and about the things that matter to Him. You will never regret inviting Him to come into your life and speak; and there is so much more available to you than what you are currently experiencing if you would only live life in the Spirit.
