A few mornings ago while worshipping the Lord in my living room I saw a vision flash behind my eyelids. It was a brilliant glowing orb whose radiant golden light shone through a thick veil of grey fog. A feeling of excitement so powerful surged through me that for a split second my stomach threatened to expel its contents. But my mind didn’t understand why my spirit was so excited.
I opened my eyes and looked out my window at the fog that had blanketed our area for days. It felt smothering, and it made venturing outside hazardous because visibility was very poor. Even the brilliant rays of the sun shining above the fog bank could not penetrate its depths.
A few days later I sat quietly with the Lord and asked Him what He was trying to show me through the vision. Habakkuk 2:14 came to mind: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” I opened my Bible and read the whole of chapter two, and when I came to verse 20, “The Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth be silent before Him!” I was overcome by a wave of reverence and awe that made me tremble. This is what I had seen!
I had glimpsed the glory of the Lord as He sits on the throne in His holy temple! It was shining through the thick spiritual fog that blankets the earth: the oppressive miasma of poverty, fear and despair; of self-centeredness, greed and lust that keeps us from seeing the glaring truth: NONE OF IT MATTERS! Because “The Lord is in His holy temple!”
Lord! Hasten the day when the whole earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea! Let every eye behold Your glory so that the Light of truth may fill every heart with hope, joy and peace and dispel the oppressive gloom of fear, despair, and self-centeredness that threatens to smother us. Open the eyes of our hearts!
“Let the whole earth be silent before Him!” in reverence and in awe.
